Americans have a problem with the truth. They seem to be unable to accept it, which is difficult to understand at a time in history when knowledge plays a larger and larger role in determining human action. Recognition of this problem is widespread. Beliefs and lies somehow always overwhelm truth, even when they are so contradictory that any effective action becomes impossible. A kind of national, psychological paralysis occurs. Nothing can be done because one belief contradicts another, and for some unknown reason, the facts don't matter. Even during those times when an overwhelming belief does compel action, Americans rush headlong into it neglecting the adage that headlong often means wrong.

This country has not behaved aggressively beyond its borders for centuries. Israel invaded Lebanon with the blessing and help of the U.S. five times in thirty years. Iran has not done anything like this," he says.´

His government has treated Iran as a threat due to its uranium enrichment program, while countries that possess nuclear weapons such as India, Pakistan and Israel did not suffer the same pressure. How do you evaluate this way of proceeding?

Chomsky: Iran is perceived as a threat because they did not obey the orders of the United States. Militarily this threat is irrelevant. This country did not act aggressively beyond its borders for centuries. The only aggressive act occurred in the '70s under the Shah's government, when, with U.S. backing, they invaded two Arab islands. Of course nobody wants Iran or any other country to have nuclear weapons. It is known that this state is governed today by a loathsome regime. But apply the same labels that are applied to Iran to partners of the U.S. such as Saudi Arabia or Egypt, and it will only be lost to Iran on human rights. Israel invaded Lebanon with the blessing and help from the U.S., five times in thirty years. Iran has not done anything like that.

Chomsky: Because Iran has followed an independent path and not subordinate to any order of international authorities. They behaved in a manner similar to what Chile did in the seventies. When this country was ruled by the socialist Salvador Allende, it was destabilized by the U.S. to produce "stability." It was not a question of any contradiction. It was necessary to overthrow the Allende government - forcible "destabilizing" - to maintain "stability" to restore the authority of the U.S. The same phenomenon is occurring now in the Gulf region. Teheran objects to the authority of the USA.

What can the European Union do to resolve the tension of this so explosive situation ?

Chomsky: It could reduce the danger of war. The EU could put pressure on India, Pakistan and Israel, the most prominent non-subscribers to the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, so that they finally sign it. In October 2009, when they protested against Iran's atomic program, the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) adopted a resolution that Israel defied, that this country sign the Treaty of Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and allow access for international inspectors to its nuclear systems. Europe and the U.S. negotiated to block this resolution. Obama made Israel know immediately that it should pay no attention to this resolution.

Then there are fans for the ultimate conservative lunatic, Rush Limbaugh, who spreads disinformation. FAIR, the organization that challenges media bias and censorship, has established that "...sloppiness, ignorance and/or fabrication is run of the mill in Limbaugh's commentary."

On the other side of the aisle, liberal commentators Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews and Rachael Maddow tend to go into attack mode against conservative members of Congress and the media.

The same is true of major Western newspapers like the New York Times, the Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal. They have extremists who placate both conservatives and liberals."

Support the Fair Elections Now Act: fix Congress to restore trust in our democracy

"Most Americans - the bottom 95%, anyway - feel that Wall Street businesses which played a role in the economic crisis should not have been giving out any bonuses whatsoever for such epic failures. If the individuals running those businesses had any conscience at all, they would never have needed this fact to be explained to them via the media. It is unacceptable to reward such egregious behavior with bonuses that in many cases represent more money than many Americans earn in a year.

So, why do we give Congress similar treatment as those same Wall St. businesses? Congress has been doing a piss-poor job of working for the American middle class for how many decades now? While American middle class wages have been stagnant, Congress has consistently voted for its own pay raises, along with gov't benefits like taxpayer-funded healthcare, while running the country into the ground.

I say it's time to put an end to that entitlement completely: Gov't and Congress, like Wall St., should be rewarded according to how well the country is doing. Why should taxpayers continue to pay congressmen close to $200k (and rising) for such shoddy work? Maybe all political leaders in America should work on an incentive basis? I'd like to see an independent panel decide if Congress deserves any sort of pay raise, and a pay cut should always be on the table."

Iraq, Afghan wars drop bombs on US image abroad as Obama's fame fades

U.S. lawmakers are working on how to reverse the country's flagging image in Muslim nations. President Obama's election brought a welcome surge in U.S. popularity, but that reputation's on the slide as the unwelcome wars in Iraq and Afghanistan continue.

My thoughts: President Obama started off with good intentions. Bush probably did too. But like all American Presidents, their power is actually limited.

The majority of Americans have no idea what their government does in their name to cause others all over the world to hate them. The majority of Americans continue to think all their "problems" and all their "enemies" will be wiped out by military means, by dropping million dollar "smart" bombs.

How many "terrorists" do you think you need to kill before you completely wipe out "terrorism"? Have a number of people in mind? Need to kill thousands more in hopes that a few "terrorists" will be among the "collateral damage" (innocents killed)? Shame on Americans who still think the Iraq and Afghanistan wars were/are justified.

A letter written by Mr Lou Pritchett, an American retired Procter and Gamble executive, is again making the rounds on the internet and e-mail. Mr Pritchett wrote his "you scare me" letter for President Obama and sent it to The New York Times.

My response: Mr Pritchett wrote this letter within a 4 month period after Obama was sworn in as President. Now THAT was fast! But good for Mr Pritchett! As Americans we should indeed feel comfortable about expressing our OPINIONS.

I'm not as well known as Mr Pritchett, but I've expressed my opinions many times too. I wrote many letters to the previous Administration.. not only to President Bush and Laura but also to Mr and Mrs Cheney, to Mr and Mrs Colin Powell, to Mr and Mrs Rumsfeld and to my Congress representative. I even wrote letters and sent them to the local newspapers. But unlike Mr Pritchett, all my letters were published and/or acknowledged. He supposily sent his letter to the NY Times and his feelings were hurt because they didn't acknowlege it? Isn't the reason obvious? Was Mr Pritchett too "scared" to send his letter to OTHER newspapers?

Mr Prichett would have had more success with the media publishing his OPINION letter to President Obama, if he had taken the time to check out the FACTS before sending his letter full of rants. Obviously he has not learned how to use the Internet to check out the issues. Too bad. Mr Pritchett, a "scared" old man, has now made a fool of himself. A person can be successful, well learned with a ton of higher level degrees, but if there isn't any common sense to go with all that learn'n, then all that book learn'n is a waste.

Mr Pritchett gave President Bush a pass on all his many mistakes because of what he did after 9/11. Attacking the wrong country for the obvious wrong reasons? Earth calling Mr Pritchett..Where were you doing the previous Administration? There goes any credibility now for scared out of his wits, poor little Mr Pritchett. My advice to Mr Pritchett is to go back to where he REALLY knew his stuff....selling soap and toothpaste.

Seems many who call themselves "patriotic" Americans because they are NOW questioning THIS Adminstration, didn't seem to be too concerned in the years BEFORE Jan 2009. (Jan 2009 - when a black man became President.)

I recently saw the following posted on a political message board. It makes some good points.

We had eight years of Bush and Cheney, NOW you get mad!?

* You didn't get mad when Cheney allowed Energy company officials to dictate energy policy.

* You didn't get mad when we illegally invaded a country that posed no threat to us.
* You didn't get mad when we spent over 600 billion(and counting) on said illegal war.
* You didn't get mad when over 10 billion dollars just disappeared in Iraq.
* You didn't get mad when you found out we were torturing people.
* You didn't get mad when the government was illegally wiretapping Americans.
* You didn't get mad when we didn't catch Bin Laden.
* You didn't get mad when you saw the horrible conditions at Walter Reed.
* You didn't get mad when we let a major US city, New Orleans, drown.
* You didn't get mad when we gave a 900 billion tax break to the rich.
* You didn't get mad when the deficit hit the trillion dollar mark.
* You finally got mad when the government decided that people in America deserved the right to see a doctor if they are sick. Yes, illegal wars, lies, corruption, torture, stealing your tax dollars to make the rich richer, are all okay with you, but helping other Americans...oh hell no!

Recently more than two dozen miners were killed in a massive explosion at Upper Big Branch coal mine in West Virginia. It's the worst mine disaster in a quarter of a century.
"Upper Big Branch is owned by Massey Energy Company, which operates 47 mines in central Appalachia. According to the Los Angeles Times, it employs nearly 6,000 and in 2009 reported revenues of $2.3 billion, with a net income of $104.4 million. At the center of this week's catastrophe is Massey's president and CEO Don Blankenship.

This week's Upper Big Branch mine disaster is the latest in a string of environmental and safety-related calamities linked to Massey and Blankenship. In 2008, the company paid a $20 million fine to the Environmental Protection Agency, and that same year, a Massey subsidiary, the Aracoma Coal Company, pled guilty to safety violations and agreed to $4.2 million in civil penalties and criminal fines connected to the 2006 deaths of two miners in a fire.

According to The New York Times, "After the fire broke out, the two miners found themselves unable to escape, partly because the company had removed some ventilation controls inside the mine. The workers died of suffocation. Federal prosecutors at the time called it the largest such settlement in the history of the coal industry."

The Upper Big Branch mine has a long history of violations. Last month alone it was cited by the U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration for 53 safety violations, many of them for inadequate venting of dust and methane and improperly maintained escape passages."

Evidently, there has been a massive breakdown in US diplomacy in Central Asia. Things were going rather well lately until this setback. For the first time it seemed Washington had succeeded in the Great Game by getting a grip on the Kyrgyz regime, though the achievement involved a cold-blooded jettisoning of all norms of democracy, human rights and rule of law that the US commonly champions. By all accounts, Washington just bought up the Bakiyev family lock stock and barrel, overlooking its controversial record of misuse of office.

According to various estimates, the Bakiyev family became a huge beneficiary of contracts dished out by the Pentagon ostensibly for providing supplies to the US air base in Manas near the Kyrgyz capital, Bishkek.

(3) US troop flights at Kyrgyz base suspened - (April 9, 2010) Instead transport forces to and from Afghanistan will go through Kuwait.
(4) After parliamentary elections in 2005, President Askar Akayev and his government were overthrown. They had been accused of being corrupt. This revolution was called the Tulip Revolution.

"WikiLeaks" reports a leaked video exposing an US government of the cover-up of the killing of two Reuters cameramen in Iraq 2007. CNN ignored it that day and Al Jazeera and the rest of the world reports it.

My thoughts: With an easy access to the Internet and news from all over the world, there's no excuse for Americans to rely only on the US sanitized media.
Besides, with the recent leaked videos showing attacks on civilians in Baghdad, we should rely more and more on Independent reporters.

But almost all the rubble of the entirely destroyed factory was covered in white, with white chunks everywhere. These were pieces of cheese, butter and yoghurt — some of the products made by the Dalloul dairy factory in southern Gaza City.

Israeli warplanes bombed the factory shortly after midnight last Thursday through Friday night, 1-2 April, leaving the building, all its equipment and the distribution van completely destroyed.'

WikiLeaks has released a classified US military video depicting the indiscriminate slaying of over a dozen people in the Iraqi suburb of New Baghdad — including two Reuters news staff.
Reuters has been trying to obtain the video through the Freedom of Information Act, without success since the time of the attack. The video, shot from an Apache helicopter gun-site, clearly shows the unprovoked slaying of a wounded Reuters employee and his rescuers. Perhaps President Hamid Karzai feels a closer bond to the SCO? In 2006 Karzai said: "I do not think the SCO is anti-west as it is a regional organization. You have such organizations among the countries in the north and South America. In Europe you have the European Union and in Africa you have the African Union," Karzai told newsmen after returning home from China.

In June 2009 Karzai attended and spoke at the SCO summit in Russia. The issues discussed were on counterterrorism, drugs, economy and regional trade.

"The SCO has sought to promote itself as a "rising beast in the East" and an Asian counter to NATO. One of the most contentious issues on the agenda -- and SCO agendas are typically dominated by Moscow and Beijing -- is the Manas Air Base on the territory of member Kyrgyzstan.

U.S. forces have been using the base since late 2001 to support operations in nearby Afghanistan. But the United States has begun to wind down its operations there after being ordered by Bishkek to vacate the base.

Many see the Kyrgyz decision as the result of pressure from Moscow and possibly Beijing.

Both China and Russia backed a move by Uzbekistan four years ago to hasten the departure of U.S. forces based there for Afghan support operations.

The Afghan parliament's upper house has voiced support for President Hamid Karzai in limiting the role of foreigners in the five-seat election fraud watchdog.

Karzai had issued a decree in February to reduce the number of foreigners in the watchdog body which includes three foreigners and two Afghans. The move led to a dispute with the White House over how to run a September parliamentary election.

In a Thursday speech to Afghan election commission workers in Kabul, Hamid Karzai blamed foreign powers for the fraud that occurred during last years elections.

“There was fraud in presidential and provincial council elections -- no doubt that there was a very widespread fraud, very widespread,” he said referring to the August presidential election but added that “Afghans did not do this fraud. The foreigners did this fraud."

Coca-Cola’s bottling operations – which extract hundreds of millions of liters of water from the groundwater resource – have significantly worsened the water crisis as groundwater levels have dropped sharply since Coca-Cola started its operations.
The company has also indiscriminately dumped its toxic waste into the surrounding areas – polluting the water as well as the land.
The results have been drastic. Tens of thousands of farmers around Coca-Cola’s plants have lost their livelihoods as the water has been depleted and the land and water poisoned. Wells have run dry and women now have to walk miles further to access potable water for daily use. Children are frequently taken out of schools to assist the family in accessing water for daily needs.

CBS printed obvious lies of President Obama that are fully refuted by all International Atomic Energy Agency reports that ALL of Iran’s nuclear material is fully accountable for peaceful and legal use for energy and medical isotopes. Mr. Obama’s lies are also fully refuted by the current unanimous agreement of all 16 US intelligence agencies published in their current National Intelligence Estimate (NIE). When a statement is made without supporting evidence and all available evidence refutes the statement, we can accurately conclude the statement is a lie. Mr. Obama is lying in the same way Mr. Bush lied to cause unlawful war with Iraq. Such wars are unlawful Wars of Aggression, treason, and our government and military are sworn in their Oaths to the US Constitution to act against the most vicious crime a nation can commit: murderous war upon our own soldiers that has so far murdered over a million human beings in Iraq and Afghanistan.

When he was child in the early 1970s, Tran says he witnessed U.S. soldiers shoot his parents — both of whom were communist Viet Cong soldiers during the Vietnam War. Bent on revenge, he joined the guerrilla group within hours.

To this day, Tran weeps over the memories of bloodshed and the hellish cries of his dying friends. But one bizarre memory will haunt him forever. "The American airplanes came right toward me and dropped a mist in the jungle, and the next day, the trees were dead," he recalled. "We weren't scared. We were confused."

Thanks to that experience, his son has been unable to walk since birth.

Agent orange continues to ravage the children of those exposed - (April 2, 2010)

My notes: Dioxin (codename Agent Orange) was a defoliant herbicide produced by American chemical companies Dow, Monsanto, and Diamond Shamrock. During the Vietnam war, Agent Orange was sprayed in the Vietnam jungles. This chemical was also stored near the Vietnam airport but the chemical leeched in to the local water supply and soil.

Now a similar thing is happening in Fallujah, Iraq where US troops carried out a major offensive in 2004.

Doctors and parents in the Iraqi city of Fallujah are blaming a sharp increase in the number of birth defects on the highly sophisticated weapons U.S. troops have used in the city during the war.

The BBC reported Thursday the staggering statistic from doctors in the city that the number of heart defects found in newborn babies is 13 times the number of similar birth defects in Europe.

The sanctions against Iran being discussed by western leaders are expected to target the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and the financial and industrial assets it controls. This will be largely ineffective at slowing the pace of Iran’s march towards a nuclear weapon. To be a member of the IRGC, let alone one of its top commanders, one has to be a true believer. Economic sanctions are extremely unlikely to cause a change of heart. Instead, the Iranians will do what they have already been doing successfully for years: building shell companies, false-invoicing, smuggling and bribing both government and corporate officials in the countries they do business.

Since the 1979 revolution in Iran, the country has been under constant US unilateral sanctions. The first U.S. sanctions against Iran were formalized in November 1979, and during the hostage crisis, many sanctions were leveled against the Iranian government. By 1987 the import of Iranian goods into the United States had been banned. In 1995, President of the United States Bill Clinton issued Executive Order 12957, banning U.S. investment in Iran’s energy sector, followed a few weeks later by Executive Order 12959 eliminating all trade and investment and virtually all interaction between the United States and Iran. The impact of these largely unilateral sanctions by the US – the world’s largest economy – has been negligible.

Despite the sanctions, Iran continued to attract foreign investment and technical cooperation for its energy sector. France, Italy, Norway, UK, Spain, Holland (all members of NATO) have taken advantage of absence of the American competition and tried to fill the gap. So have Japan, Brazil, Malaysia, China and Russia. However, the threat of American retaliation against foreign firms has kept the investment way below the levels necessary to maintain the present energy infrastructure and develop additional capacity. Current investment only allows Iran to continue to keep its oil export at its OPEC determined quota level.

Iran has the third largest proven oil reserves, roughly 10% of proven global reserves. It is the fourth largest oil producer in the world and OPEC’s second largest exporter. There are, at present, nine refineries (in Tehran, Tabriz, Isfahan, Abadan, Kermanshah, Shiraz, Bandar Abbas, Arak and Lavan Island). Refineries, tanker terminals and liquid natural gas (LNG) processing plants are limited and concentrated mostly in Iran’s southern and western provinces.

Iran’s petroleum industry is its Achilles Heel. For any sanctions to have a meaningful impact, they must include a total ban on importing Iranian oil & gas, as well as exporting technology, and financing exploration and development. This will be a painful step for western economies still struggling with the global recession. However, Israel must make clear to its would-be allies that mealy-mouthed protests are no longer enough. It must also make clear that if Israel is compelled to act alone, it will. After terrorist conspirator and “former” U.S. government agent David Coleman Headley received promises of leniency and extradition protection from American prosecutors for his role in the 2008 Mumbai massacre, speculation about his true masters was set ablaze as outrage erupted across India.

Headley — a former Drug Enforcement Administration agent and the son of a Pakistani diplomat — pled guilty to various criminal charges on March 18 in connection with his terrorist activities in India, Pakistan and Denmark. He is reportedly “cooperating” with investigators.

In exchange, the government vowed not to allow foreign authorities to question him or subject him to trial. Prosecutors also agreed not seek the death penalty, and he may not even serve a life sentence. Links to U.S. intelligence agencies will remain classified. And his guilty plea ensures that there will be no drawn-out trial that could publicly reveal any relationships with various intelligence agencies — most notably, the Central Intelligence Agency-linked Pakistani Inter-Services Intelligence.

Headley admitted in the plea bargain that he helped plan the bloody massacre by conducting surveillance and selecting targets, gathering GPS coordinates for the terrorist team’s boat landing along the coast, and more. He was also helping to plan an attack on a Danish cartoonist. And while the Federal Bureau of Investigation was given almost 10 hours to question the only surviving attacker in India, a team of Indian investigators who traveled to the U.S. to interrogate Headley was turned away.

The plea deal and the lack of American cooperation immediately sparked fury and despair in India, as the U.S. is reportedly bound by treaty to surrender Headley to Indian authorities. It also fueled accusations in the media that Headley still may have been linked to the American or Pakistani governments in some capacity. He began his terrorist training around the time that he was working for the U.S. government. But the connections, however, remain shrouded in mystery.

My thoughts: A few days ago the Vatican exorcist Father Amorth accused Satan of tempting Catholic priests to molest children. When it comes to sexual issues, hypocrisy is rampant in the world of religions and politics. The recent scandals include institutions that that are supposedly examples of "family values," "good, clean life styes," "God-fearing holiness."

Republican National Committee's latest scandal includes a spending spree of donor money on a lesbian bondage-themed strip club in Los Angeles. This incident must have been a "turn on" for Larry Craig, John Ensign, Mark Foley, and others whom have been "caught in their OWN acts of recent embarrassingly sexual indiscretion. (Republicans campaign against gay marriage.. and yet enjoy spending money and enjoy observing lesbian sex?)

Will this scandal cause Americans to question the wisdom of donating their hard earn money to the Republican party? Of course we can't turn a blind eye away from the sexual scandals of the Democrats. They too have their share of sexual hyprocrisy, but the Republican party seems to have more incidents of sex scandals. Next time you make a donation to your favorite political party, remember these incidents and where some of your money goes towards.

Then we have the Catholic church sex crimes. The head of the Catholic church, the mediator between heaven and earth, Pope Benedict XVI, has been accused covering up of child abuse within the church. The Pope's knowledge of these crimes and his failure to report it to legal authorities make him an accessory of those crimes. Is the Pope an enabler of child molesters? Since he has a direct line of communication to God, did HE not get the message from God that child molestation is EVIL? Many are now questioning whether there may be a connection between the Vatican and NAMBLA (North American Man/Boy Love Association).

These hypocritical political parties and religious institutions are thumbing their noses at their followers. Anyone who is aware of these wrong doings but continues to be an apologist for these organizations and for the leaders of these organizations, are themselves delusional and quilty as well.

We have religious leaders all over the world representing ALL religions who profess to be holy people of their God, and yet do horrid perverse acts against innocent children. Who preach family values and yet cheat and lie in their married and sexual life. Who turn their eyes and voices away, pretending not to notice by refusing to speak out against obvious wrong doings of their fellow religious leaders. Some of these wrongdoers say the "devil made me do it," but in reality they mock their God because…. they are HYPOCRITES of their faith.

People tend to put their religious leaders on a pedestal. Some followers proclaim these "righteous" leaders as their mediator "father" between themselves and their heavenly "father." It's human nature to desire a father figure, who will spread their protective arms around them and protect them from the evil of the world...A father figure who will teach them the difference between good and evil.

What happens when these human holy religious authority father figures turn out to be NOT so holy? Will their followers question the doctrines and theology of their faith? Will there be major changes, or will things go on as normal, be covered up and continue as if nothing happened? One doesn't want to disappoint their authority figures, but what will happen when the authority figures themselves are a disappointment? Only time will tell.

As human beings we are ALLOWED to question ALL authority figures, earthly and spiritual.

The big news today was President Obama's "surprise" visit to the troops in Afghanistan. While there he met with the corrupt, puppet President Hamid Karzai.

Jones, Obama’s national security advisor, told reporters the president would engage his Afghan counterpart on benchmarks for matters that require attention, such as a initiating a merit-based system for appointment of key government officials, battling corruption, and taking the fight to the country’s drug traffickers, who provide funding for insurgents." My thoughts: In other words, President Obama instructed Karzai to pay up ($$$) the Taliban whom Karzai hopes to incite to be part of the corrupt Afghanistan government.
The troops have been encouraged to "stay the fight until our goal is completed." In other words, President Obama encouraged them to be happy and feel the rush of patriotism because….they're fighting and dying to keep the pipeline safe unitl it's completed and running.

John Pilger: Here is news of the Third World War. The United States has invaded Africa. US troops have entered Somalia, extending their war front from Afghanistan and Pakistan to Yemen and, now, the Horn of Africa. In preparation for an attack on Iran, American missiles have been placed in four Persian Gulf states, and “bunker-buster” bombs are said to be arriving at the US base on the British island of Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean.

In Gaza, the sick and abandoned population, mostly children, is being entombed behind underground American-supplied walls in order to reinforce a criminal siege. In Latin America, the Obama administration has secured seven bases in Colombia, from which to wage a war of attrition against the popular democracies in Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador and Paraguay. Meanwhile, the Secretary of “Defense” Robert Gates complains that “the general [European] public and the political class” are so opposed to war they are an “impediment” to peace. Remember this is the month of the March hare.

According to an American general, the invasion and occupation of Afghanistan is not so much a real war as a “war of perception.” Thus, the recent “liberation of the city of Marja” from the Taliban’s “command and control structure” was pure Hollywood. Marja is not a city; there was no Taliban command and control. The heroic liberators killed the usual civilians, poorest of the poor. Otherwise, it was fake. A war of perception is meant to provide fake news for the folks back home, to make a failed colonial adventure seem worthwhile and patriotic, as if “The Hurt Locker” were real, and parades of flag-wrapped coffins through the Wiltshire town of Wooten Basset were not a cynical propaganda exercise.

“War is fun,” the helmets in Vietnam used to say with bleakest irony, meaning that if a war is revealed as having no purpose other than to justify voracious power in the cause of lucrative fanaticisms, such as the weapons industry, the danger of truth beckons. This danger can be illustrated by the liberal perception of Tony Blair in 1997 as one “who wants to create a world [where] ideology has surrendered entirely to values” (Hugo Young, the Guardian) compared with today’s public reckoning of a liar and war criminal.

Western war states such as the US and Britain are not threatened by the Taliban or any other introverted tribesmen in faraway places, but by the antiwar instincts of their own citizens. Consider the draconian sentences handed down in London to scores of young people who protested Israel’s assault on Gaza in January last year. Following demonstrations in which paramilitary police “kettled” (corralled) thousands, first-offenders have received two and a half years in prison for minor offences that would not normally carry custodial sentences. On both sides of the Atlantic, serious dissent exposing illegal war has become a serious crime.

Since Congress’s health care debate, lawmakers have received countless death threats, had their buildings vandalized, have had white powder mailed to their offices, and have had to get police protection.

Yesterday (March 25), former speaker of the House Newt Gingrich (R-GA).. at a press conference in Atlanta organized to air Republican opposition to the health care bill that just passed. At one point, Gingrich was asked about the death threats and vandalism lawmakers who supported the bill have been receiving.

GINGRICH: Just as there was no place for the kind of viciousness against Bush and Cheney, there’s no place for viciousness against Democrats…..I think the Democratic leadership has to take some moral responsibility for having behaved with such arrogance, in such a hostile way, that the American people are deeply upset….I think the Democratic leadership has to take some real responsibility for having run a machine that used corrupt tactics, that bought votes, that bullied people, and as a result has enraged much of the American people. And I think it’d be nice for President Obama, Speaker Pelosi, and Majority Leader Reid to take some responsibility over what their actions have done to this country.

"Russia's largest private oil major said it was suspending an oil project in Iran because of U.S. pressure.

The LUKoil company issued a statement on Wednesday saying it had stopped further work on the Anaran project “because of the economic sanctions imposed by the U.S. government.” It blamed the sanctions for a loss of some $63 million last year and said it feared more losses if it continued to carry on the project.

The Anaran field, with estimated oil reserves of 2 billion barrels, was operated by a consortium of Norwegian StatoilHydro (75 per cent) and LUKoil Overseas (25 per cent). LUKoil Overseas head Stanislav Kuzyev has clarified that his company retains its rights in the project and would be ready to return “under more favourable economic situation.”

LUKoil has 1,600 petrol filling stations in the U.S. and last year announced plans to build an oil refinery in the U.S. These investments would be vulnerable to tough sanctions the U.S. imposed on international energy companies operating in Iran.

The news of the LUKoil pullout came hours after a senior Russian diplomat said “clouds are gathering” over Tehran's reluctance to accept a United Nations offer to replace fuel for an atomic reactor."

My thoughts: Both the Republican health care bill of 1993 and the Democrat bill sound similar. This proves the Republican opposition to the Democrat bill is only PARTY POLITICS.

"Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered another angry rebuke to the Obama Administration over the settlement expansion which stalled the US brokered indirect peace talks.

Netanyahu declared that thesettlements in occupied East Jerusalem weren’t technically settlements at all, because “everyone knows” that Jerusalem will be the eternal and undivided capital of Israel. Israel invaded and occupied East Jerusalem in 1967, along with the rest of the West Bank, and its legal control over the territory has never been established in international law.

But this did not stop Netanyahu from declaring that Israel had been “unjustly accused of not wanting peace” because of the settlement expansion, which killed the peace talks. Netanyahu insisted that his government has consistently shown a commitment to peace “from day one” and that it was only the Palestinians who were holding up the process."

My thoughts: This is obviously a chess game move. The REAL reason why Netanyahu came all the way to the US to meet with Obama today was all about Iran. Israel wants America's support for an attack before Sept 2010.

Israel's refuses to stop the continued building of illegal ILLEGAL settlements. President Obama "appears" upset with Israel in order to neutralize the anger over this situation from Arab countries.

While Bart Stupak was speaking to Congress Sunday night, Republican Rep Randy Neugebauer yelled out "baby killer." Neugebauer has apologized but continues "to speak with the same passion that I spoke last night."

"Not only did we see the government takeover of your health care, but we saw the lives of unborn children used as a bargaining chip to somehow get the needed votes to pass this legislation," he said. "I spoke very passionately because I believed what was going on was not right for America. I'm never going to quit speaking on behalf of the unborn," he said."

My thoughts: Randy, Randy, Randy… How come you didn't "speak out" when America's million dollar "smart bombs" were being thrown on the Iraqi people? You can't pretend NOW you speak on the behalf of the unborn when you didn't do so for the unborn in Iraq. You've just proved that YOU are a hypocrite. YOU supported that illegal war. YOU have the blood on YOUR hands for the THOUSANDS innocents killed that war.

Following is a repeat of my post dated Jan 18, 2010 but in the light of Rep Neugebauer's antics, it needs to be repeated. My post was titled:"Anti-abortion activist."

Ali Ismaeil Abbas was 12 yrs old when an American million dollar "smart bomb" fell onto his house in Badgdad, killing 16 members of his family. Both Ali's arms were blown off. Most of his body was burnt. His father was killed. His pregnant mother was killed. The BABY in her womb was killed. People "say" they're against abortion, but where were all those anti-abortion people BEFORE the war started? Isn't war all about KILLING? Did they help protest the Iraq BEFORE it started? Why would people think unborn American babies are MORE precious in God's eyes than Iraqi unborn babies? No one likes the thought of sucking out brains from unborn babies. Neither should a person delight in dropping bombs on the heads of pregnant mothers.

SHOCKING behavior yesterday in DC! As members of Congress walked to their offices, Tea Party people, protesting the Health Care bill, angrily shouted racist, derogatory rants.

"A staffer for Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.) told reporters that Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.) had been spat on by a protestor. Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.), a hero of the civil rights movement, was called a 'ni--er.' And Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) was called a "faggot," as protestors shouted at him with deliberately lisp-y screams."

My thoughts: It's been obvious for a while that the majority of members of the Tea Party movement are not REALLY angry with bills that may or not pass, the taxes, or if whether or not we can AFFORD improved health in this country, or the Constitution, etc....If THAT were the case, then they would have raised their voices during the Bush Administration. Why get angry NOW and not THEN?..

Because it's all about HATRED. These people attempt to express their anger under the guise of patriotism but they continue to prove that they are BIGOTS. They are just plain angry that a BLACK man is now President of the US. Perhaps they would feel more comfortable with a group they have more in common with.. like the KKK? And while we're at it, throw the ridiculous "birthers" in with these obnoxious Tea Bagger people too!

We can't continue to ignore obvious racism and prejudice.

*Iran aids Taliban?

"TALIBAN commanders have revealed that hundreds of insurgents have been trained in Iran to kill Nato forces in Afghanistan.

The commanders said they had learnt to mount complex ambushes and lay improvised explosive devices (IEDs), which have been responsible for most of the deaths of British troops in Helmand province.

The accounts of two commanders, in interviews with The Sunday Times, are the first descriptions of training of the Taliban in Iran.

According to the commanders, Iranian officials paid them to attend three-month courses during the winter."

My thoughts: The "source" for this story is from "Taliban commanders?" Pitiful. There is no credible evidence to prove this story. This story is similar to previous "stories" that were used to demonize Iraq BEFORE that war. This is an obvious attempt to demonize Iran before a possible false flag terrorist attack… a false flag attack that will be blamed on Iran.

Just recently Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin told US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton that Russia MAY accede to a sanctions resolution on Iran (emphasis on the "may").

Meanwhile the US is urging Russia to delay the start up date of Iran's Bushehr nuclear power plant. (The Russians are helping with the financing and building of this power plant).

Of course "under the table" deals with Russia is still possible. Russia desperately wants to join the World Trade Organization (WTO). Joining the WTO would open markets to Russia, the biggest country outside the 153-country organization, and open Russian markets to WTO member states.

The US may push to get Russia what it wants in order to get what Israel… opps, I mean what the US wants… the closing of Iran's nuclear plant. If this doesn't happen, then expect an attack on Iran before Sept 2010.

Demonizing a country BEFORE attacking it has been used many times. It makes it easy for the US government to obtain American's support for a war, even if that war is built on obvious lies (i.e. Iraq war).

Aid to Israel in the President's State of the Union?

President Obama said the right things about bad budget priorities in his 2010 State of the Union address on Jan 2010. Will he apply this principle to military aid to Israel? Obviously NO.

On February 1, President Obama requested $3 billion in military aid for Israel in his FY2011 budget request as part of a ten-year $30 billion Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Israel. Congress now has to approve the President's budget request.

Write a letter to your Senators and Representative below telling them that you oppose $3 billion in military aid to Israel this year because of its human rights abuses of Palestinians and that you would rather see that money spent on domestic priorities in your state and Congressional district.

End the occupation

During the Bush Administration (January 2001-January 2009),Israel killed at least 3,107 innocent Palestinian civilians, according to B'Tselem: The Israeli Information Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories.

In most cases, Israel killed these Palestinian civilians with U.S. weapons provided to Israel at U.S.taxpayer expense. Israel also used U.S. weapons to injure thousands more innocent Palestinian civilians, destroy billions of dollars of Palestinian civilian infrastructure, blockade the Gaza Strip, and build illegal settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem to enforce its illegal 42-year military occupation of the Palestinian West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza Strip.

My thoughts:
Why are the majority of tea partiers busy protesting spending, and opposing issues for the good of Americans, but were strangely SILENT when we spent TRILLIONS of dollars on a war built on OBVIOUS lies? SILENT when we spend TRILLIONS on more war TOYS and SILENT when we ILLEGALLY (The Arms Export Control Act P.L. 80- 829 and the SYMINGTON Amendment) send BILLIONS of our tax money to Israel?
